The New Museum of Contemporary
Art The New Museum of Contemporary Art is the only museum
in New York City devoted to presenting contemporary art from around
the world. The Museum presents the artwork of under-recognized artists
and has made surveys of important figures such as Ana Mendieta,
William Kentridge, David Wojnorowicz, Paul McCarthy and Andrea Zittel.
In 2007 the New Museum will open at a new facility designed
by the Tokyo-based firm Sejima + Nishizawa/SANAA and the New York-based
company Gensler.

Encyclopedia Contemporary Art Galleries The most
common business model for profit and privately
owned galleries is by taking a cut of the art's sales. As a rule
commercial galleries do not charge admission to the public. In cities
like Tokyo some galleries charge the artists a flat rate per day.
The business of contemporary art has become increasingly internationalized
and commercialized. The business today is dominated by a few large
international galleries such as the Gagosian Gallery, Marian Goodman
Gallery, David Zwirner, Gladstone Gallery and PaceWildenstein .
Commercial galleries can choose to represent artists exclusively
with solo shows regularly.
