Art Museums
An Art museum or an art gallery
is a space for the exhibition of visual art, usually paintings,
plastic arts, illustrations and sculpture. Collections of
drawings and old master prints are often kept in a print
room. There are often collections of applied art, including
ceramics, metalwork, furniture, book art and other types
of object.
The first publicly owned museum in Europe
was The Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Initially
conceived as a palace for the Florentian magistrates, it
later advance to a display for many of the paintings and
sculptures collected by the Medici family. After the house
of Medici the art treasures remained in Florence and formed
the first public modern museum.
