Characteristics of graffiti. The most common
styles have their own names like a tag witch is the
most basic writing and personal signature of an artist's
name with spray paint or marker.
Tags often
contain the artist's initials or other letters and sometimes
cryptic messages.
Another form is the throw-up
or the fill-in which is normally painted very quickly
with few colours. A piece (short form of masterpiece)
is a more detailed representation of the artist's name with
more stylized bubble or block letters and
often with three or more colours. A blockbuster
is a large piece covering a large area with two contrasting
colours.
A more complex style is wild style
with letters, arrows and connecting points.
A roller is a fill-in that takes up an
entire wall with the purpose of blocking other writers from
painting on the same wall. Some artists also use stickers
as a quick way to get-up. Sticker tags are
done on anything with an adhesive side to it.
Stencils are made by drawing an image onto a piece of
cardboard or paper and then cut with a razor blade. What
is left is then sprayed over. To bomb or hit
is to paint many surfaces in an area and bombers
often choose throw-ups or tags as they can
be finished more quickly.
